An operating system is a massive program that controls all other programs on a computer. An operating system is actually a collection of thousands of files working together in combination to present the user with an easier to use environment. The largest distributor of operating systems is Microsoft, with their Windows product line.

The campus has a Microsoft campus agreement where we are able to provide students with a Windows installation if the student needs such services. Most machines however, come preloaded with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Windows XP is the newest release of a consumer operating system that Microsoft has to offer. Additionally, Windows is required to load Microsoft Office. Students are required to be able to perform the tasks required by the campus using whatever operating system they prefer. However, the HUB officially supports only Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
